Let’s Fight the Fight Together

I have a confession. Are you ready? Here it is. It didn’t use to be this hard. Not that I can remember, anyway. And I’m going back some. You see, I’ve been matching employers with skilled people for several years now. And in all honesty, it’s usually been tougher getting the business owners on board than finding the right candidate. Chalk it up to the traditional formula – many hiring managers want to go it alone, and job seekers will forever be out there responding to ads and sending in resumes.

But this year it’s different. Very much so. As the economy begins to reopen and companies start scaling back up, I find myself in the unique position of fielding requests from several Connecticut businesses, to find them the right people to fill solid openings. Reliable jobs, with competitive pay and fun environments. Some even come with full benefits and cash bonuses.

But where are the people? It’s been reported in the news lately that many business owners are struggling. Not only in retail and hospitality, but also in skilled trade areas such as electrical, construction and sales. Some say it’s because of extended unemployment benefits that make it equally profitable to stay home. Others say it’s because we’re still reluctant to venture back into shared workspaces, still scarred by the masked year from hell we’re just starting to emerge from. Still others find a remote work environment to their liking, and they plan to stick with it.

Whatever the case, this is unique for staffing agencies such as myself, and for the clients we work for. The solution? For agencies such as mine to work even harder. I can tell you this – job seekers that are motivated to get back out there have a place to go. Whether you’re an employer or job seeker, I’ll keep doing what I do – fit the right person to the right opportunity, for as long as it takes.
